Dear Friends
We now know the 16 countries that have qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup. Please check under your name on the attached table that I have awarded 1 point for each of the countries you have correctly selected to reach the last 16. This is where the points really start adding up. For each of those countries successfully predicted to reach the quarter-finals and beyond, 2 extra points are awarded and added to your current totals. The last-16 matches will end on Tuesday 6 December, when I will further update the table, and the quarter-finals take place on 9 and 10 December. Enjoy the rest of the tournament and good luck. Dear Friends Our competition continued until the final match and now that the World Cup 2018 is over we have a winner. The Dickens Lodge Champion Predictor is Pat who wins the first prize of £75. There are two runners-up – Nesta and Rob – who each receives £12.50. All three correctly predicted France to win the World Cup 2018. There were many surprises which, I hope, increased your enjoyment but, notwithstanding the surprises, the winning total of 36 points was 3 points better than last time. I received £100 in entry fees and donations and I have decided to match that £100 as a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Thank you very much for your support. If you liked the World Cup 2018 predictions competition you are going to love Premier Predictions, which begins in four weeks’ time. I will give you details near the start of the new Premier League season. Thanks again. Dear Friends It’s a 3-way tie for 1st place between Susan, Josie and Edna. Edna was the only one to correctly predict Germany to win the World Cup 2014, and the 5 additional points she won for predicting the winners gave her a total of 33 points, a total which had earlier been achieved by Susan and Josie. So it’s £33 for each of the winners. Congratulations to you all. Thank you to everyone who entered. I hope you enjoyed the competition and that it enhanced your viewing pleasure. If you’ve acquired the football bug, the domestic Premier League season begins in 5 weeks’ time and, as usual, I will be inviting people to take part in the weekly scores-predicting competition Premier Predictions. Bye for now. DAVE |
